kyokkou — backlog
Ideas and future directions. Not committed to, not prioritised.
OpenStreetMap → GeoParquet → egui / Blender
Pull real-world geographic data into kyokkou as a scene source.
Pipeline:
OpenStreetMap (Overpass API or .osm.pbf)
→ GeoParquet (via DuckDB spatial / overturemaps)
→ egui live viewer (streets, buildings as graph/topology)
→ Blender scene (3D city render — god rays over rooftops,
fluid through street networks as data flow)
egui path: render the map as a 2D schematic in the egui_graph canvas — streets as edges, intersections as nodes, same transit-map aesthetic. Live query via Overpass → update graph without leaving the app.
Blender path: extrude buildings from footprints, street network becomes guided fluid channels, volumetric atmosphere over the city block. Traffic or sensor data drives flow velocity and node emission.
Why interesting: real topology with real geometry. The schematic → 3D pipeline is identical to the system topology categories — same contract, different data source.
Starting point: DuckDB with the spatial extension reads GeoParquet natively. Overture Maps Foundation publishes pre-processed GeoParquet for the whole planet.
