crates/gunnar-pack/tests/index_floor.rs
//! `index_pack` must not carry a fixed floor that a five-file commit pays in full.
//!
//! # The defect this witnesses
//!
//! `gix_pack::cache::delta::traverse` drives `gix_parallel::in_parallel_with_slice`,
//! which spawns a watcher thread whose whole body is
//!
//! ```text
//! loop {
//! if stop_everything.load(Relaxed) { break; }
//! match periodic() {
//! Some(duration) => std::thread::sleep(duration), // <-- 50 ms, uninterruptible
//! None => { stop_everything.store(true, Relaxed); break; }
//! }
//! }
//! ```
//!
//! `stop_everything` is set **after** every worker has been joined, and the
//! watcher is inside a `std::thread::scope`, so the scope cannot return until
//! the watcher wakes on its own. `gix-pack` asks for a 50 ms interval. The
//! watcher therefore always sleeps one whole interval, and the sleep is not
//! overlapped with anything once the workers are done — it is appended to the
//! call.
//!
//! MEASURED 2026-08-04 on oden, before the fix: a 10-object pack cost **51.2 ms
//! wall for 1.5 ms of process CPU**, a 31x wall:CPU ratio, and the wall was
//! 50.8-54.2 ms across every run regardless of load. That is the signature of a
//! sleep, not of work.
//!
//! # Why this is the ordinary case and not a corner
//!
//! A five-file commit is 8 objects: five blobs, two trees, one commit, 565
//! bytes on the wire. Every `git push` of ordinary size pays the floor once,
//! and gunnar was 1.7-9.0x slower than stock git on small packs entirely
//! because of it.
//!
//! # Why the assertion is a MIN and not a mean
//!
//! The thing under test is a **floor**: a lower bound that no run can dip
//! below. `min` over repetitions is the statistic that isolates it. A loaded
//! box can stretch any individual run upward — oden ran at load 70 on 32 cores
//! while this was written — but nothing can push a run below the sleep the
//! implementation performs, so an unfixed `index_pack` cannot pass by luck, and
//! a fixed one cannot fail by it.
//!
//! # What makes it non-vacuous
//!
//! The three ways a timing assertion goes green while measuring nothing are all
//! closed here: the pack is asserted to hold the objects it should (an empty
//! pack indexes instantly), the written `.idx` is asserted to exist and to be
//! accepted by **stock git's** `index-pack --strict`, and the object count out
//! of `index_pack` is asserted rather than ignored.
